You are responsible for all travel arrangements but we will help with advice on local airports, train stations or routes where possible. See our travel links for help.

Both you and the host family will be responsible for meeting the children on arrival in your country.

Unaccompanied children - please check with the travel operator on their rules concerning unaccompanied children. In some instances, you will be asked to provide a letter giving permission for your child to travel alone. In particular, please check the restrictions for sending children under 14 years old. Some operators do not allow them to travel unaccompanied.

We strongly recommend that clients should arrange holiday insurance to cover medical expenses and loss of personal belongings, money etc. See www.gotravelinsurance.co.uk or www.travel-insurance-finder.co.uk for online insurance which often offers discounted prices.

Your child must have a European Heath Card before they travel. This can be collected free of charge from post offices. For more details, see: http://ec.europa.eu/employment_social/healthcard/index_en.htm

If you get a E11 form from the Post Office, you can reclaim most of any medical or dental costs.

Don't forget your passport!

You can apply for a passport via www.ukpa.gov.uk

Before your visit, you may wish to correspond with your exchange friend to build up your friendship. Also, you can then find out from them what items you might need to pack for your visit.
